Summary of Truks and Goten:

Son Goten is the second son of Goku, born right after the death of Goku at the Cell Game. Goten is able to become a Super Saiyan at an early age, his potential, as with little Trunks, to be a strong fighter is great, so much so that Goku once said that those 2 are geniouses. At age 6, with the news that his older brother Gohan is entering the Tenka-Ichi Budoukai and the news that his father is going to come back for 24 hours to also participate in the tournament, Goten decides to also join the tournament and starts training with his brother. Goten surprises Gohan by being able to transform into a Super Saiyan so quickly, but we also find out that Goten is not yet able to fly. So Gohan teaches Goten, along with Videl, how to fly. Goten learns how to fly very quickly, and starts training with Gohan in preparation for the tournament.

Now, as we all know, Trunks is the son of Vegeta and Bulma. But this Trunks grew up in the peaceful world made possible by the help of his future counterpart. Having grown up in this peaceful environment and having his father still around has had some side effects on Trunks. He is still a very strong warrior, and is able to go Super Saiyan, but he is very mischievious and very very very disrespectful. I guess you can expect that when your father is the prince of the Saiyans and your mother is the daughter of the president of the biggest and richest company in the world, Capsule Corporation! Having been trained by Vegeta, and being a year older than Goten, Trunks is a bit stronger than Goten. (which makes Vegeta very proud) Upon hearing that Goten is going to enter the Tenka-Ichi Budoukai, along with Gohan, Goku, and Vegeta; Trunks decides to join the tournament also, and begins training.

At the Tenka-Ichi Budoukai, everyone reunites with Goku. Goten just gazes at Goku, and Trunks comments that his father looks stronger. When registering for the tournament, Goten and Trunks finds out that there is a kid's division for kids 15 and younger. Trunks is very disappointed at this and wants to fight with the adults, but is told no, so Goten and him reluctantly goes off to fight in the kid's division, where they just blow past the competition. Finally, in the Final game, Goten and Trunks meets. They both fight furiously. Mr Satan is horrifies at watching these 2 kids fight. After the long battle in which both kids broke the rule of "no Super Saiyans", Trunks comes out as the winner. As the winner of the kid's division, Trunks gets the right to fight Mr Satan, the "ultimate world champion and savior of Earth". Mr Satan, scared of Trunks, tells the kid to punch him just very lightly. Trunks refuses and punches him pretty hard. Satan is slammed against the wall and pretends that he lost on purpose. Trunks really wonders here if Mr Satan really is the world champion. When it was time for the adults to start fighting, Goten and Trunks, wanting to fight with the adults, knocks out one of the contestant, steals his costume, and enters the tournament in disguise. After the the incident with Babidi's henchmen, all the contestants flies away, except for Mr Satan, Goten&Trunks, No. 18 (who stayed for the money), and 2 humans. Mr Satan declares a battle royal among the contestants left, and is horrified when he learns that a battle royal means everyone against him. Goten&Trunks and No. 18 quickly knocks out the 2 humans and then begins fighting each other. After a little bit of fighting, No 18 clevery exposes Goten&Trunks' disguise and Goten and Trunks are disqualified for fighting with 2 people. The tournament is eventually won by Mr Satan, who bribed No 18 to lose on purpose. After the tournament, Goten and Trunks learns about Majin-Buu, and wanting to see what a Majin looks like, they rush straight to the battlefield. When they arrive at the battlefield, they see stone statues of Piccolo and Kulilin. The 2 had been turned to stone when Darbura spat on them. Trunks accidentally knocks over the Piccolo statue and breaks it. Then all of the sudden, since Darbura had been killed, Kulilin returns to normal. Horrified, Trunks goes back to check on the Piccolo statue, and finds bloody pieces of Piccolo. Things looks grim until Piccolo shows up in one piece. Luckily he had been able to regenerate. Then they see Vegeta fighting Buu. When Vegeta is about to lose, Goten and Trunks comes to help. After being helped, Vegeta tells Trunks to take care of mom, hugs him, and knocks him out. Then Goten is knocked out. Then Piccolo is told to carry them away. After that, Vegeta goes and commits a suicide attack against Buu, which ultimately fails. When waking up at Kami's Temple, Goten and Trunks are devastated by the news of Gohan and Vegeta's death. (altho Gohan wasn't really dead) But Goku tells them to get revenge by perfecting the fusion technique. First the 2 are not willing to listen to Goku, refusing to be taught by a weak guy... this was because Goku was knocked out and wasn't able to help Vegeta. But when Babidi and Buu threatens to blow up the Western Capital, where Capsule Corp is, Goku tells Trunks to go get the Dragon Radar at Capsule Corp real quick while Goku holds Buu off. Trunks does, and when he and Goten feels the ki of Super Saiyan 3 Goku, they quickly change their mind about Goku and becomes an attentive student. But soon, Goku ends up having to go back to the afterlife, and Piccolo finishes the rest of the teaching. Now, with Goku gone, Vegeta dead, and Gohan defeated, it seems like Goten and Trunks are Earth's only hope. When they first actually try out the fusion technique, they mess up and end up really fat. The second time, they mess up and end up really thin. The third time, they get it right, and we have the birth of Gotenks. After fusing, Gotenks, who happened to be very very cocky, rushed off to fight Buu, and comes back all beaten up. Next, they try fusing when they start out as a Super Saiyan. We now have a Super Saiyan Gotenks. This Gotenks is also very cocky and shows off first by flying around the world many times. This showing off wasted too much time and when they actually went to fight Buu, their fusion ran out and they had to run away. A little bit later, when Super Buu shows up at Kami's Temple, Goten and Trunks are sent to the Room of Spirit and Time to train more, while Piccolo tries to gain as much as possible. After training for a week in the room, they fight Buu, right in the Room of Spirit and Time. To show off, Gotenks doesn't even start off as a Super Saiyan, and gets a beating. Then he becomes a Super Saiyan, and after using many cool techniques such as Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack, he almost defeats Buu but they're not successful. Here, Gotenks acts like he can't do anything more, and Piccolo destroys the door to the room, trapping them in this other dimension forever. But Buu manages to escape by the anger that he got from the thought of no more candies for all of eternity, and his loud yell opened a hole back to the normal world. Now Piccolo and Gotenks are stuck in the room. So they try to yell their way out but are not successful. So Gotenks finally shows his true power by transforming into a Super Saiyan 3. SSJ3 Gotenks yells and opens a hole, and gets out with Piccolo back to the normal world, where they fight Super Buu some more. They do very well and come within a step of defeating Buu, but their SSJ3 transformation wears out, and eventually their fusion. They seemed destined to death, until Gohan comes to help. With Gohan beating up on Buu, everything looked fine, until Buu challenges Gotenks to fight him again. So Goten and Trunks fuses, and becomes Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks again. But this time, Buu absorbes Gotenks and Piccolo. We now don't see Goten or Trunks again until they are rescued by Goku and Vegeta out of Buu's body, but are killed almost immediately when Little Buu blows up Earth. They are later brought back to life by the Nameck Dragonballs, and after Goku defeats Buu, lives the next 10 years in peace. 10 years later, at the end of DBZ, we see Goten and Trunks as both teenager slackoffs who only care about going out with girls, which is unfortunate, because they both had great fighting potential... probably greater than that of Gohan!
